Reading Activity: Match It, Snap It!
Objective(s):
Your child will be able to:

Identify the onset and rimes of the word through the bottle caps in the activity.

Create word families by manipulating onsets and rimes to form another word not given in the activity
-
Read out the words on the word and picture card.
Description of activity:
-
Play scissors paper stone with your child to determine who goes first.
-
Every player to pick up 1 card per round and face it upwards in the same position.
-
If a player lifts up a card that matches with any of the cards facing upwards, he/she will shout ‘SNAP!’
-
You can provide more guidance to your child by verbalising both the picture and word cards to help him/her match it.

After receiving the matched cards from the pile, take out the bottle caps and spell out the word from the word card (eg.C-o-w).

You can provide more guidance to your child by pronouncing each letter of the word to help him/her spell out.
-
Player with the most cards in the end wins!

Determine the first player with your child.

The first player will roll the dice.

Move the playing piece according to the number on the dice.

Read the ending rime.

Task your child to form a word using an on-set and rime on the whiteboard each time he/she lands on a grid.
